Privacy Policy

If you have tried the functionalities of the website, you have probably noticed that the site is open to everyone to change and modify any profile. This is the whole concept of Weedee, to be an open directory of people and companies alike. Before we go into the concept of Weedee, there are two questions that come often - Isn't it risky to allow anyone to edit anything? - and - Why would I want to have my profile public?

Is it risky?

It is true that anyone can do anything to a profile, and it is prone to mistake or ill intended usage. Unseemingly, the site has a complex mechanism for monitoring and regulating content, where any mistake gets visible to the community to correct and misusage gets penalized. This is done through 1) the community monitoring the site and 2) a rating system that evaluates the quality of the input. The rating system for example can disqualify a user and removes all the input done by that person automatically. We will publish more on those mechanism as we progress, but rest assure that we are not leaving anything to chance.

Why should I choose to have my information public?

Now as to why I would want to have my profile public if someone else added it without my knowing? - As soon as your profile is given an email, we will notify you right away so that you can monitor and adjust your preferences. But the real answer to this question is - can you really control what is going out there on the Internet about you? If anything is written about you or a company in a blog, a wiki, an article or anywhere else; will you be able to control that? There is probably already something out there on you that you are not aware of. Google is a great tool to dig those information out and it shows how much uncontrolled information goes out in the wild. The advancement of information sharing will only increase that effet. Knowing this, is Weedee anything different? No, because what you can do here can be done anywhere else, but Yes, because here in Weedee, we offer a controlled environment with mechanisms to protect you. Your contacts in Weedee will also more likely catch any misinformation here than out there on the Internet. Most importantly, if you are registered with us, you will be informed of any changes to your profile. So even if Weedee is 'open', it is actually safer.

Privacy policy also comes into question, as the nature of an open directory itself challenges that. This site is maintained by you and everyone else, hence anything that is on the site has been submitted as public information, same as it would anywhere else on the Internet. We only offer the tool and the platform for you to do so in a proper and controlled environment. We will take steps to protect you from spammers and ill-intended users. We are committed to not sell the information that the website contains. The information that the website holds is yours and Weedee will keep it that way. Our business model will revolve around offering you relevant services through the website, offered by us or quality partners.
